Worms have nowt on Ants
In Jane Bennet's Vibrant Matter - A Political Ecology of Things she refers to worms as actants. These worm actors can be seen as being located within an ecosystem and therefore becoming part of a public. With another description of what constiutes a public she notes Jacques Ranciere's account; the public is constituted by bodies with uniquely human capabilities, talents, and skills, and political action is something that only they can do.
For me these descriptions bring the images of concrete filled Ant Colonies to mind - fully structured complex social structures filled with concrete. Like Bennet's worms these spaces become public spaces inhabited by ants. Ants colonies are eusocial and when reading about it there is defiantly an argument that human life is also Eusocial - more to be found here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ant_colony#Colony_structure
