The Space was an not-for-profit artist-led initiative in the heart of Cork City.
The Space was run by Cork Contemporary Projects, a multi-disciplinary collective who before establishing The Space operated utilizing free spaces for temporary exhibitions sites. The Space operated as a not for profit year long projects which provided emerging artists with a city centre location to practice, collaborate, network and exhibit. The gallery opened on the 2nd October 2009 with 'Chalk it Down', an exhibition of contemporary drawing curated by co-founder and member Edel O Reilly. The gallery closed it doors for the last time on the 3rd September 2010 with a Screenings by local film-makers Max Le Cain and Peter McMorris, with live sound-score provided by Liam Slevin and Kevin Tuohy on the night. Since its inception The Space had been involved with a number of festivals including Art Trail '09 and the Avant 2010, held 8 exhibitions, worked with nearly 60 artist and co-ordinated over 20 events ranging from artist's talks, film screening, workshops, performance night, sound art events, poetry readings and art cafe events. |
